英语小故事（一）：
三个好朋友。
One day， a monkey rides his bike near the river.
This time he sees a lion under a tree. The lion runs at him. He is afraid and falls into the river. He can’t swim. He shouts.
The rabbit hears him. He jumps into the river. The rabbit swims to the monkey， but he can’t help him.
Luckily， an elephant es along. He is very strong. He helps the rabbit and monkey.
Three friends are very happy. They go to the elephant’s home. Then， three of them bee good friends.
一天，一只猴子在河边骑车。

英语小故事（二）：
When a lion was asleep， a little mouse began running up and down beside him. This soon wakened the lion. He was very angry， and caught the mouse in his paws.
"Forgive me， please." cried the little mouse. "I may be able to help you someday." The lion was tickled at these words.
He thought， "How could this little mouse help me?" However he lifted up his paws and let him go.
A few days later， the lion was caught in a trap.
The hunters wanted to take him alive to the king， so they tied him to a tree， and went away to look for a wagon.
Just then the little mouse passed by， and saw the sad lion.
He went up to him， and soon gnawed away the ropes. "Was I not right?" asked the little mouse.
狮子与报恩的老鼠

One good turn deserves another：I was having dinner at a restaurant when Harry Steele came in. Harry worked in a lawyer's office years ago， but he is now working at a bank. He gets a good salary， but he always borrows money from his friends and never pays it back. Harry saw me and came andsatat the same table. He has never borrowed money from me. While he was eating， I asked him to lend me &2. To my surprise， he gave me the money immediately. 'I have never borrrowed any money from you，' Harry said，'so now you can pay for my dinner!'

A man was going to the house of some rich person. As he went along the road， he saw a box of good apples at the side of the road. He said， "I do not want to eat those apples; for the rich man will give me much food; he will give me very nice food to eat." Then he took the apples and threw them away into the dust.
He went on and came to a river. The river had bee very big; so he could not go over it. He waited for some time; then he said， "I cannot go to the rich man's house today， for I cannot get over the river."
He began to go home. He had eaten no food that day. He began to want food. He came to the apples， and he was glad to take them out of the dust and eat them.
Do not throw good things away; you may be glad to have them at some other time.

A little panda picks up a pumpkin and wants to take it home. But the pumpkin is too big. The panda can’t take it home.

So she rolls the pumpkin to her home. When her mother sees the big pumpkin， she is surprised， “Oh， my God! How can you carry it home?” the little panda answers proudly， “I can’t lift it， but I can roll it.” Her mother smiled and says，“What a clever girl! Use you heard to do something，”

可爱的称呼
Bernie was invited to his friend's home for dinner. Morris， the host， preceded every request to his wife by endearing terms， calling her Honey， My Love， Darling， Sweetheart， etc. Bernie looked at Morris and remarked， "That is really nice， that after all these years that you have been married， and you keep calling your wife those pet names." Morris hung his head and whispered，" To tell the truth， I forgot her name three years ago."

Once there were three foxes， they worked together. They lived a happy life.
Little by little， the youngest fox became lazy， and often quarreled with the other foxes. The eldest had to leave， and the second fox was driven off， too.
Looking at the warm house with a lot of good food in it， the youngest fox smiled.
The eldest fox opened a new hill again.
The second eldest fox dug a pool. Two of them because rich soon.

The Sports Meeting in the Forest

The idiom derived from this story indicates that one's action was the opposite effect to one's intention.

英语小故事（十九）：
Mike is a little boy. He is only five years old. He is too small to go to school. So he can not read and write.
One day he stood at my desk with a pencil in his hand. There was a big piece of paper on the desk. He wanted to draw a picture of himself. He drew lines and cleared them out， then drew more and cleared them out again. When I looked at the picture， he wasn't happy. "Well，" he said at last to me， "I'll put a tail on it and make it a monkey."
He began to add the tail. I began to laugh.

英语小故事（二十）：
There was a sturdy ram with a pair of thick horns upright on its head.
It strutted about proudly and saw a fence built with bamboo and wood in front， which blocked its way. It cast a sidelong glance at the fence， lowered its neck and lunged at the fence， hoping to knock it down. The fence remained intact but the ram injured its own horns.
If it had not injured its horns， the ram would have persisted obstinately in butting against the fence， even against the spokes of a wheel until it bled with a fractured skull.
As a result， with its horns caught in the fence， the ram could neither advance nor retreat butbleat helplessly.
一头长得十分雄壮的公羊的头上，挺立着一对粗大的犄角。
公羊骄傲地踱着步，看见前面有一道竹木编成的篱笆挡住了它的去路。公羊斜着眼睛看看，便弯下脖子呼的一声撞上去，想把篱笆撞倒。结果篱笆纹丝不动，它反把自我的犄角碰伤了。
假如公羊没有碰伤犄角的话，那么它还会一个劲儿地撞下去，甚至向车轮的辐条上撞去，直到头破血流为止。
结果呢?公羊的犄角被篱笆夹住，进也不得，退也不得，只能“咩咩”不停地叫唤。
